October News 2013 and beyond!

The October Newsletter for the Jackson Gallery Singers

Dear All, I have decided to write you all a note, as we all have such busy lives and I had lots to tell you all!

I will be in Jacksons this Friday 18th Oct from about 1.30 and hope we can practice Downtown and a few others.

On Friday 25th October the Wacapella choir are coming to do their choir session in the Jackson Gallery between 11 and 12.30 and would dearly like as many of us as possible to join them. (Carol from Jackson Gallery Singers and I sing with them). They would like to sing to us and then join in with us and eat cake and lunch and be merry.

Therefore, on Friday 25th October Jackson Gallery singers will be from 11am until 3pm. Singing, good company and nice food and drink. Hope to see you all at some point!

On Saturday 26th October at 11am, Portland Rotary have asked us to do a surprise flash mob in Easton. Nikki is currently organising a rehearsal space for 10am for half an hour in Easton. Come on Friday to hear more or contact Nikki.

We will meet during half term on Nov 1st and will then begin to plan two things for the festive season.

Jackson Gallery Singers have booked and paid to hire St John’s Hall on Saturday 7th December between 1pm and 3pm and will be welcoming in the community via posters, personal invitation and the Free Portland News, to come and join in the singing or listen and have a tea or coffee. Pam has offered to help serve the teas and coffees and my children have offered to eat any cakes that are donated! the idea is an informal singalong Christmas with light refreshments and also the opportunity for anyone who wants to, to add their own musical performance in a group or alone. For example, Julie and Nikki working on a short festive song. This will replace the singalong we did in the church last year. We have decided to do it in the afternoon, so that no one has to go home in the dark.

On the 18th December there may be a chance to stand together to sing a few festive songs by the Christmas Tree in Wren Court between 6 and 6.30. It has been advertised as a Festive Fortuneswell evening, so i thought I would go and do that if anyone wants to join me?

The 18th December will be the last event I will do with the Jackson Gallery Singers until the 10th January 2014, but if the cafe is open you can still meet. All of this is subject to change…but I am fairly certain of dates and times, so wanted you to know. Please spread the word! Nikki Fryer 🙂

14th November 2012

On the 9th November we were joined by visiting singer and Yogic Nun Didi, who treated us to several of her own songs which we enjoyed singing along to.  Then we sang a few of our more well known favourites accompanied by Jonathan on mandolin and Nigel on accordion. This Friday we will be joined by Did again and will make a start on a few festive favourites for the Festive Fun in Fortuneswell event on the 19th December at 6pm. Nikki has some positive news from B Side who are giving us financial backing. Huge thanks to them. And there is talk of a summer event for 2013 – A Portland Pageant. If anyone has any more details, let us know!

5th October 2012

New facebook group called Jackson Gallery Singers

A few things have come up this week…..

1. St Andrews Church on Tuesday 16th October at 1.30pm.

Carrie had asked us sing to her friend Sheilas Sneddon at her bedside. Sheila passed away peacefully last Friday night. The family were wondering if any of us would be available to sing something uplifting at the funeral on Tuesday 16th October at 1.30. Nikki Fryer has already told Carrie that she is not available, but if anyone would like to do this, please let Nikki know today and she will put you in touch with Carrie.

2. Coffee morning to raise funds at Osprey Leisure Centre in November.

Sheila Bedford has asked me to ask you all if any of you would be happy to sing at a coffee morning in November to help raise money for a group at Osprey Leisure Centre. She will find out more details and get back to us and has given the organiser Nikki’s contact number.

3. Tuesday 11th December 2.30pm, Hope Church, Weymouth

Julie Matthews has asked if anyone can help her sing Carols and Christmas songs at hope Church on the 11th December at 2.30pm. Nigel has already said he can help out. Nikki is unavailble as she will be doing a nativity play at that time. Anyone who can help would be most welcome.

4. Festive Fun in Fortuneswell – 19th December from 6pm to 7.30pm

Nikki has been asked to co-ordinate a musical evening around Wren Court and in St John’s church on Wednesday 19th December from 6 to 7pm in St Johns and then around the Christmas tree in Wren Court. Nikki will prepare a couple of songs for us to sing. All welcome.

So that we have an idea of who can/who wants to do each event, Nikki will prepare a sheet for us to sign next week to let people know who is available.
